Grewsome Beauty (2024)
Curated by Azzmin Frances at Braer Studio, Grewsome Beauty presented a series of 30 ceramic vessels by Anna Parsons, each pushing the limits of form, surface, and scale. Working with an iron-rich clay body, Parsons manipulated the material into swollen, asymmetrical shapes that bulged and overflowed with expressive excess. The vessels featured heavily textured surfaces, encrusted with layers of vivid glaze, gestural colour fields, and eruptive gold crystalline forms.
Teetering between the ornamental and the grotesque, the works invited tactile engagement and offered a subversive take on beauty in contemporary ceramic practice. As curator, Frances positioned the exhibition within Braer's evolving dialogue between art, nature, and the domestic object.
